Product of the Month: 2013 Trek 5.2 Madone & tech of new frame

We’ve got a new toy in store in the shape (quite literally!) of the 2013 Trek 5.2 Madone.

This bike takes everything that was great about the original Madone and raises the bar exponentially!

Below are just some of this amazing bikes key features:
  • KVF tube shape: The truncated KVF shape uses less material than a conventional airfoil, so it reduces weight as it improves aerodynamics.
  • Integrated brakes: Brakes should slow you down, but only when you apply them. We built front and rear brakes directly into the Madone fuselage to keep them hidden from the wind, reducing drag. In addition to improving aerodynamics, integrating the brakes eliminates the need for mounting plates and bolts, saving weight.
  • KVF head tube: Super-aero head tube is optimised at the leading and trailing edges for minimum drag.
  • KVF fork: All-new fork features KVF aero legs to minimise drag. Its ride-tuned sweep increases compliance for greater comfort, and unique moulded carbon dropouts reduce weight and optimise the wheelbase. The new fork also increases lateral stiffness for ultra-precise handling.
  • Brakeless seatstay: Madone’s integrated brakes allowed us to redesign the seatstay, eliminating the brake bridge and removing reinforcing layers to shed weight without compromising performance.Unrestricted by the need for a brake mount, we positioned the stays for best performance and incorporated the KVF shape for maximum aero benefit.
